Soil mineral deficiency

I stumbled upon this article and thought that it’s a good follow-on from our soil talk in the middle of the year.  I find the article interesting but it is by no means a guide for your soil.  As I understand it, mineral deficiency does not necessarily mean that the mineral is not present.  It could be that it isn’t available due to incorrect soil pH levels or the use of chemical fertilisers e.g., superphosphate, locking up the minerals and inhibiting plant uptake.

It is good to know how mineral deficiencies affect the health of the consumers of plants grown in the area.  Think about the use of chemicals in farming and how the perfect looking food might not be so perfect for our inner health after all.  Be happy with the odd bunch from your own chemical-free garden!
